Chile played smartly at the altitude of La Paz. Taking advantage of the counter attacks and defending perfectly, Marcelo Bielsa's side notched an important 2-0 win over Bolivia, in round 5 of the South American Qualifiers.

The first half was tight though Chile showed altitude was not an obstacle for them. Alexis Sanchez on the right attacking flank, and Jean Beausejur, on the left, were a headache for Bolivian defenders. Sanchez, who play for Argentina's River Plate, was quick and accurate in the attacks and always tried hard to recover the ball.

In minute 29 the visitors took the lead. Pedro Morales shot a free kick and to ball hit the crossbar. Beausejur grabbed the rebound with a header and Gary Medel scored the first goal. Bolivia tried to answer, but all they kept shooting wide.

As the match resumed, Bolivia tried really hard to equalize in the second half. Erwin Sanchez's side got closer to the goal, as Chileans moved backward to defend the score, only Humberto Suazo and Alexis Sanchez were to attack. Bolivia pressed and they paid for that.

Because Chile, backed by Ismael Fuentes, a key figure, bet on the attacks, taking advantage of their rivals' desperation. In minute 31, Bolivians gave up hopes. A defender made a mistake, and Medel netted the second. The match was sealed and Erwin Sanchez's men had resigned themselves to facing a home defeat.
